Rodent Control and Exclusion Programs in Hampton Roads
Rats and mice are among the most damaging and potentially dangerous pests that can invade a Hampton Roads home. They contaminate food and surfaces with their droppings and urine, gnaw through electrical wiring (a leading cause of house fires), damage insulation and structural materials, and can carry diseases including hantavirus and leptospirosis. A single pair of mice can produce up to 60 offspring in a year, meaning that a small problem can become a major infestation very quickly.
At Pest Heroes, we use a proven dual-approach program that combines professional baiting with physical exclusion to eliminate current infestations and prevent new ones from developing.
Signs of a Rodent Problem
Common indicators of a rodent infestation include droppings along walls, in cabinets, or near food sources; gnaw marks on food packaging, wood, or wiring; greasy rub marks along walls or baseboards (caused by rodents repeatedly traveling the same path); scratching or scurrying sounds in walls or ceilings, particularly at night; nesting materials such as shredded paper or fabric in hidden areas; and a strong, musky odor in enclosed spaces.
Our Rodent Control Process

Step 1: Thorough Inspection. Our technician conducts a comprehensive inspection of your property, both inside and outside. We identify all signs of current activity, locate entry points, and assess the conditions that are attracting rodents to your property.
Step 2: Professional Baiting. We strategically place tamper-resistant bait stations in locations that are accessible to rodents but inaccessible to children and pets. We use professional-grade rodenticides that are not available over the counter. The bait is monitored and replenished on follow-up visits until all activity has ceased.
Step 3: Physical Exclusion. This is the most important step for long-term control. We seal all identified entry points using professional-grade materials including galvanized steel mesh, copper mesh, and expanding foam. Common entry points include gaps around pipes, vents, utility lines, and the foundation; damaged crawlspace doors; gaps under garage doors; and holes in soffits or fascia boards.
Step 4: Follow-Up and Monitoring. We schedule follow-up visits to monitor bait station activity, confirm that exclusion repairs are holding, and address any new activity.
